Inclement Weather Policy
When weather is bad, Gloria Dei Lutheran School may follow the decision of Hampton City Schools in delaying or closing school. Occasionally, Gloria Dei's childcare program will be cancelled due to inclement weather as well. Listen to the news on Channel 13 (WVEC), Channel 10 (WAVY), or Channel 3 (WTKR) for this announcement. Please do not call the school for this information, as it will unnecessarily tie up the phone lines. Gloria Dei also has One Call Now, a parent notification system where parents may be notified of school closings and events by phone, text, or email. Please keep your contact information current. We do NOT make up school days missed to inclement weather.
If Hampton City Schools closes for bad weather, Gloria Dei closes as well! Buses will NOT run!
Parents should keep a child who is ill at home. If your child is experiencing fever, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, etc., you need to keep him or her at home. When your child has the symptoms listed above, he or she is contagious. We need your assistance in this matter to help prevent any sickness from spreading to other children or staff members. A child with a fever needs to stay home from school at least 24 hours AFTER the fever is gone. Children should not be brought to school sick or with a fever. Children who are sick will be removed from class, and the parent or guardian will be called to pick up the child. Parents will be contacted if a child becomes ill or injured at school. Please make sure that all numbers are correct at all times. When a child is brought to the office not feeling well and running a fever, the parents will be contacted to come pick up the child. If your child is sent home from school with a fever, diarrhea, or vomiting, he or she cannot come back to school the next day. The child must be kept out of school the additional day to make sure that he or she has recovered from whatever illness he or she had. Children taking antibiotics need to be on them for a minimum of 24 hours, from the first dosage, before returning to school.
